Spring is here! Winter is over!!!! We are now into the last week of the 3rd quarter and the fourth quarter is on the horizon. So much to look ahead to in the 4th quarter: State/Diocesan Testing, kindergarten testing, Easter vacation, Right to Read week, Teacher Appreciation week, First Communion, May Crowning, 6th Grade Camp, Special Friend’s Day, 8th Grade Trip, and of course Graduation! It is a busy couple of months, so be sure to check out the monthly calendars to stay on top of everything going on as we close out the 2016 – 2017 school year! Also, be sure to get in all Parish Scholarship information and Ed Choice Scholarship renewal forms immediately as we approach deadlines for both!
State and Diocesan Testing It is that time of year again…testing! Over the next month all of our students will be taking some form of testing for either the state of Ohio or Diocese. All tests are taken online. During the week of March 27th – 31st, students in grades 3 – 8 will take the English Language Arts Test from the State of Ohio. During the week of April 3rd – 6th students in grades 3 – 8 will take MAP Testing given by the Diocese of Toledo. Students in grades K - - 2 will also take MAP Testing during the month of April. Finally, during the week of April 24th – 28th students in grades 3 – 8 will take Math Testing from the State of Ohio and Grades 4,5,6,8 will take either the Science or Social Studies Tests.
Be sure your child has had a good night sleep and a good breakfast each and every day to get them ready for these tests and the entire school day! Athletic Director Gesu School and Parish are looking for a new Athletic Director beginning for the 2017 – 2018 school year. For those who are interested please send a letter of interest to Principal, Manuel Gonzales at firstname.lastname@example.org Job Description of the Athletic Director: • Meet with the Parish Pastor and school principal to review the athletic program. • Coordinate all player sign-ups. • Oversee the formation/selection of all teams. • Ensure that all participants meet CYO eligibility requirements. • Submit all CYO team entry forms and fees to the CYO office prior to deadlines. • Recruit coaches. • Meet with all coaches to review expectations, duties and responsibilities. • Make sure coaches have all proper paperwork. • Establish a practice schedule for all teams. • Submit all CYO rosters and fees to the CYO office prior to deadlines. • Mediate any issues that may occur with coaches, parents and/or players. • Evaluate the equipment, facilities and uniforms to ensure that the participants are safe. • Help develop and discuss the budget with Pastor, principal and business manager of the Parish. • Communicate with all regarding the athletics program of the Parish.

Pennies for Patients I want to thank everyone who donated to the Pennies for Patients program during the month of February. We raised over $500! Congratulations to KN, who for the 2nd straight year brought in the most money and will receive a free lunch!!! Great example kindergarten! Thank you for helping in this wonderful cause!!!
Kindergarten Screening Just a reminder there is NO SCHOOL on Thursday, March 30th and Friday, March 31st for our Kindergarten students only because of “K” screening of new students for the 2017 – 2018 school year.
The Ohio Dental Outreach Program Thank you to everyone who participated in the Dental Program. This week the program wrapped up servicing all those that had signed up. I want to thank Nurse Moore for all of her hard work coordinating this program.
Pep Rally This past week we had a surprise Pep Rally to celebrate all the accomplishments of our winter basketball teams. We also unveiled a new banner for our 8th grade boys basketball team who went 25 – 0 this year and won the Diocesan Championship! During the rally we were able to introduce all the teams, have a free throw competition and all of students were treated to cake and ice-cream. We had a wonderful Gesu party to celebrate!!! It was a great time had by all!! Way to represent Gesu…. Greyhounds…We are proud of you all!!!
