Registration materials for 2017 – 2018 are coming home today! Please be sure to review all the information and make sure everything is returned by the deadlines. We have been working on various advertising options this past month. The Open House sign is now at the corner of Parkside and Bancroft. Over 100 yard signs will be going up through the area with Open House information. Finally, we are sending over 5000 invitations to families in the area to hopefully get them to come take a look at what we have to offer here at Gesu! With that said please remember to spread the word about Gesu School to your friends, neighbors and relatives. Word of mouth is our greatest form of advertisement and recruitment, so please spread the word, Open House will take place on Sunday, March 5th from noon – 2:00 PM, or please have anyone interested in enrolling call the school office and we can get them all the information! We can never be content, we must always be looking for ways to make Gesu better. So again, on behalf of everyone at Gesu…Thank you and we look forward to the years to come...NO BETTER PLACE…WE ARE GESU!
Catholic Schools Week
Thank you to everyone who made Catholic Schools Week such a wonderful celebration. I know our students (and I) loved Patrick the magician!!! It is truly a privilege to attend Gesu and any Catholic School. A heartfelt THANK YOU goes out to our PTO, parent volunteers and teachers who made this week possible. Gesu is a wonderful place and thank you for allowing us to educate your children!

Power of the Pen
Back in January our Power of the Pen team competed against local schools in the area. I am so proud of the following students who have advanced to Regionals in March. 8th graders: Juliani and Sierra, and 7th Graders: Eric , Emma , Alahna , and Erin . I want to thank our Middle School Teacher, Mrs. Peters, who has put in countless hours helping our students sharpen their writing skills…maybe I should have one of them write the next newsletter? Congratulations and good luck at Regionals!
It is time to start collecting and turning in those Boxtops to help raise money for Gesu School. During the month of February the classes will compete to see who can turn in the most Boxtops. Pennies for Patients:
For the past several years Gesu School has helped raise money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Pennies for Patients Program. During this program, Gesu students will collect money to support LLS’s mission: to find cures and ensure access to treatments for blood cancer patients. All students will take home a small box that they can use to collect money over the next few weeks. Gesu will collect money from February 6th – February 24th. All students should return their box no later than February 27th. The class that brings in the most money will win a special lunch sponsored by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I can’t thank you enough for helping to support a wonderful cause and look for your boxes to come home on February 6th!

I would like to announce the Toledo Diocese is taking nominations for the Golden Apple Award. Through the generosity and kindness of the Jack and Rhodora Donahue Family Foundation of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, the Golden Apple Award has been established to honor outstanding individuals who devote their lives to teaching in Catholic schools. This foundation has been expanded from the Diocese of Pittsburgh to include the Diocese of Toledo. Between now and February 10th please submit your nomination, along with a letter of recommendation explaining why the Gesu teacher should win the Golden Apple Award. In the letter, give specific qualities that make this teacher outstanding and deserving of this wonderful award. All nominations need to be submitted to the principal by Friday, February 10th. We have outstanding teachers here at Gesu, please take the time to nominate one for their work in your child’s education. Last year, Mrs. Mary Ellen Peters, our middle school language arts teacher, was 1 of 7 elementary school teaches to receive this prestigious honor. Let’s make it two teachers in 2 years!!! If you have any questions, please contact the school office.
The next newsletter will be sent home on Tuesday, February 21st…be sure to look for the 2nd quarter Honor Roll in that newsletter!!!!
We are Gesu...NO BETTER PLACE…Mr. G.
