Next week, enrollment papers for the 2017 – 2018 school year will go home! I can’t believe it’s that time of year again! I want to thank all of you for trusting Gesu with your kids. You will find all the necessary paperwork in the packet. Please be sure to get all information back as soon as possible. All the scholarships have deadlines and we don’t want anyone to miss out on the opportunities. For the most part everything is the same as last year, however there is NO REGISTRATION FEE for returning families who turn in all the paperwork (& composite fee) by the deadline. I also want to thank our Gesu Parish. Our Catholic Parish subsidizes some 20% of our school. Their generosity to Gesu goes a long way in allowing us to keep providing the quality education we provide. It is truly a team effort by everyone in the Gesu community and I am excited about continuing to grow our wonderful School and Parish. With that said please begin to spread the word about Gesu School to your friends, neighbors and relatives. While we are working on some advertising for Open House, but our greatest recruitment tool is word of mouth! So please spread the word, Open House will take place on Sunday, March 5th from noon – 2:00 PM, or please have anyone interested in enrolling call the school office and we can get them all the information! We can never be content, we must always be looking for ways to make Gesu better. So again, on behalf of everyone at Gesu…Thank you and we look forward to the years to come...NO BETTER PLACE…WE ARE GESU!

During the week of January 30th – February 3rd, Gesu, along with all Catholic Schools around the country, will be celebrating Catholic Schools Week! It is an opportunity to have a “little fun” and reflect on what makes our Catholic Schools so special. Gesu School has been providing a Catholic Education to students for the past 95 years. Our history is rich with tradition and I am excited that every day we continue to build on it! I want to thank the PTO and our Catholic Schools Week committee of teachers who are planning a wonderful week to thank our students, parents and teachers of Gesu!

Pennies for Patients
For the past several years Gesu School has helped raise money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Pennies for Patients Program. During this program, Gesu students will collect money to support LLS’s mission: to find cures and ensure access treatments for blood cancer patients. All students will take home a small box that they can use to collect money over the next few weeks. Gesu will collect money from February 6th – February 24th. All students should return their box no later than February 27th. The class that brings in the most money will win a special lunch sponsored by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I can’t thank you enough for helping to support a wonderful cause and look for your boxes to come home on February 6th!
From the Nurse
Winter is in full swing and so are the winter/seasonal viruses/illnesses, below are some conditions that have been seen in Lucas County
• The Norovirus: Flu like symptoms: these symptoms can start 12 to 48 hours after exposure. Most people get better within 1 – 3 days.
• Hand, foot and mouth disease (also a virus) is also making an appearance in our area. In many cases the virus is mild and causes few symptoms. In some cases, a child will have painful blisters in the mouth, on the gums and tongue, palms, and fingers of the hand and on the feet.
• Strep throat that is usually accompanied with a high fever. Child will need to see a doctor for medication. Parents please check up on your child often, if your child has a temperature of 100 or above, THEY MUST STAY HOME FROM SCHOOL! A child needs to be fever free and symptom free for 24 hours before returning to school. Best Prevention – WASH YOUR HANDS!!! If you have any questions, please call Nurse Moore at 419-304-3474.
Used Book Sale

I would like to announce the Toledo Diocese is taking nominations for the Golden Apple Award. Through the generosity and kindness of the Jack and Rhodora Donahue Family Foundation of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, the Golden Apple Award has been established to honor outstanding individuals who devote their lives to teaching in Catholic schools. This foundation has been expanded from the Diocese of Pittsburgh to include the Diocese of Toledo. Between now and February 10th please submit your nomination, along with a letter of recommendation explaining why the Gesu teacher should win the Golden Apple Award. In the letter, give specific qualities that make this teacher outstanding and deserving of this wonderful award. All nominations need to be submitted to the principal by Friday, February 10th. We have outstanding teachers here at Gesu, please take the time to nominate one for their work in your child’s education. Last year, Mrs. Mary Ellen Peters, our middle school language arts teacher, was 1 of 7 elementary school teaches to receive this prestigious honor. Let’s make it two teachers in 2 years!!! If you have any questions, please contact the school office.
