I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! The students participated in a variety of learning activities the first three days back from Christmas Vacation and are now ready to finish out the quarter this week! As we go through January, I want to remind everyone that February 1st begins enrollment for the 2017 – 2018 school year!!! I will have more information on enrollment in the next newsletter and in all of the enrollment paperwork, that will go home the first week of February. However, in the meantime begin to tell your friends, neighbors and relatives about Gesu. Word of mouth is our greatest recruitment tool in bringing in new families to Gesu
Writing Corner
A Poem shared by 7th grader Syhler
Winter, winter snow is falling
Winter, winter frosty is calling
All the snow is full of beauty, wonderful and full or purity I dream of frosted wonders
It drives your heart asunder
Its beauty reigns on window panes
Winter, winter do you hear me?
Winter, winter I adore thee.
Career Day
On Thursday, January 5th our Middle School celebrated career day. The students had a chance to research and think about careers they may be interested in and had a chance to hear from a variety of guest speakers discussing their jobs. I want to thank the Gesu parents and friends of Gesu who gave up their time to present to our middle school students. We had some 15 guest speakers and it was a wonderful experience for our students.
Volunteers
Thank you to everyone who has gone through Virtus to sign up to volunteer here at Gesu. If you have questions, please be sure to call the school office at 419-536-5634.
Easter Vacation
I have had several parents email and call me about when Easter Vacation is. The dates have not changed from the school calendar that went home at the beginning of the year. With Easter falling very late this year, vacations are spread out throughout March and April, however Gesu’s Easter Vacation starts on Monday, April 10th and students will return to school on Tuesday, April 18th.
Golden Apple
I would like to announce the Toledo Diocese is taking nominations for the Golden Apple Award. Through the generosity and kindness of the Jack and Rhodora Donahue Family Foundation of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, the Golden Apple Award has been established to honor outstanding individuals who devote their lives to teaching in Catholic schools. This foundation has been expanded from the Diocese of Pittsburgh to include the Diocese of Toledo. Between now and February 10th please submit your nomination, along with a letter of recommendation explaining why the Gesu teacher should win the Golden Apple Award. In the letter, give specific qualities that make this teacher outstanding and deserving of this wonderful award. All nominations need to be submitted to the principal by Friday, February 10th. We have outstanding teachers here at Gesu, please take the time to nominate one for their work in your child’s education. Last year, Mrs. Mary Ellen Peters, our middle school language arts teacher, was 1 of 7 elementary school teaches to receive this prestigious honor. Let’s make it two teachers in 2 years!!! If you have any questions, please contact the school office.
Flocknote
Gesu’s text and email system is up and running. If you are not receiving texts or emails, please contact the school and we will make sure you are in the system correctly.
The next newsletter will be Monday, January 23rd
