Gesu  is a Roman Catholic Community guided by the spirit of St. Francis de Sales who calls us to Live Jesus! Inspired by our faith committment, we share our diverse talents and gifts in service to one another. As a Eucharistic family, nourished by the sacraments and the Word of God, we welcome all to our spiritual home.

by Gesu Parish Toledo on 02/28/17

This Lent our Gesu Community will again participate in Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl Project, a faith-in-action program that will help you experience Lenten spirituality by living in solidarity with people in need around the world.

Beginning on Ash Wednesday we will pass out the Rice Bowls which contain a Lenten Calendar to guide your Lenten prayer, fasting and almsgiving.  Also, again this year we will provide you with the "Little Black Books" which contain 5 minutes opportunities for daily prayer and reflection during this Lenten season.

I hope that you take advantage of these opportunities and that this season of Lent is one that helps you to grow in your own spiritual life and in your Christian commitment to others in need.

As Pope Francis challenges us: "Lent is a fitting time for self-denial; we would do well to ask ourselves what we can give up in order to help and enrich others."

Use your cardboard CRS Rice Bowl and Little Black Book to get the most out of Lent this year.  Read the Stories of Hope and daily reflections to inspire your Lenten journey.  Prepare simple, meatless meals on Fridays throughout Lent to eat in solidarity with our brothers and sisters around the world.

We will be collecting your CRS Rice Bowl at the end of Lent, so stay tuned to learn more.  The CRS Rice Bowl Project has a free Lenten App Too!  Download it for your iPhone or Android and get daily reflections right on your phone.

Also during Lent the Adult Faith Sharing Groups will be meeting for prayer and discussion around the theme of Christian service to our neighbor.  I pray tat this will be an enriching time for all those involved and that it helps you to better see the face of Jesus in those around you.

CRS Rice Bowls!  The Little Black Books!  Adult Faith Sharing Groups!  Lots to help make this Season of Lent a good one.  Make it so!

Happy Lent.

Fr. Marty

The winner of the $500 prize from among the people who sold over 10 tickets was Ginny Kaiser, a member of Gesu. The next three names drawn were for $500 each. The winners were Jean Buckley, a faithful member and volunteer with our St. Vincent de Paul Society, Joyce Graves, currently a part of the RCIA and will join the parish at Easter, and Margaret McCready, and we can't even begin to list all the wonderful things that Margaret does for Gesu. And the $5000 Grand Prize went to Tom and Nancy Douglas. They also were present and were practically speechless!
