Fr. The Desk Of Fr. Marty Lukasby Gesu Parish Toledo on 08/08/17
Just a couple of things to mention this week-
With the beginning of August this past week, we are entering into the home stretch of the summer! Hardly seems possible, doesn't it?
As you can see, the work was completed on various sections of the parking lot and driveways. Our Rectory dining room was painted and updated over the summer and there was the normal painting and cleaning from top to bottom of the school - ready now to receive students for the 2017- 18 school year that begins next week on August 22 - only 10 more days of summer vacation for our Gesu students. WOW!
Looking ahead a little, please mark your calendar for the annual parish, end of the summer picnic. This year it will be on Sunday, August 27 - having a 4:00 PM Mass on Saturday but only one Mass on Sunday morning at 11:00AM - outside. Make a little note of it now and plan to attend. That way you won't be among the folks that come strolling in during the homily - thinking it is the regular 11:30 - (and being really late for Mass that morning)! Keep checking the bulletin for information about the picnic, you'll be asked to bring a side dish as the parish provides the meat.
Also, a couple of weeks ago I wrote about the funeral practices allowed by the Catholic Church. I mentioned that cremation is an acceptable practice and how to properly honor and treat one's remains. What I failed to mention is that it is also acceptable to donate one's body to science. In situations like this, the institution that received the body for study will cremate the remains when finished and will return them to the family for proper disposition. I just wanted you to know this particular detail on the topic.
That's all for this week - gotta get out and enjoy these final days of summer!
Blessings to you all,
